The Little Flower 🌸
This morning I feel inspired to try to put into words part of the meaning behind our daughter’s name (Daisy).
The daisy is the “birth month flower” for anyone born in the month of April. But there is also a deeper meaning that can be hard to explain…
On January 2, 2022, I said a special prayer that God would send me a sign. I was feeling some discouragement at the time and was looking for a sign to boost my encouragement. Immediately before I finished praying, God sent me a clear picture in my mind of a woman named Daisy. I was feeling very confused as to why I would have this vision of this woman. She wasn’t someone I had spoken to in a fairly long time. But I could tell that this sign God sent me carried some “weight” to it and my mind started to try to grasp at what this could mean.
Being so typical of what it’s like when we try to figure things out “in our own strength” - I started to wonder if maybe there was a chance that my husband actually knew this woman. So I headed downstairs and asked him about it (lol).
He, of course, was very confused and obviously said that he did not know her. Which led me to explain to him that I prayed that God would send me a sign and I had a vision of this woman named Daisy.
My husband thought this was also pretty odd but he went outside and came back a little while later and said, “I think maybe it could mean that we’re going to have a little girl and we will name her Daisy.”
Now granted this was on January 2, 2022. The reason I remember the date is because I could tell it was important and so I put a “note” into my phone so that I’d remember (our daughter wasn’t born until April 26, 2023).
Later into the year, I started learning more about the saints. One particular saint stood out to me and became very special for various reasons: St. Thérèse of Lisieux
I started to feel a particular devotion to her and ended up choosing her as my confirmation Saint when I completed the The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults program in April 2023.
It wasn’t until then that I looked her up online and noticed her birthday: January 2. The same day God had sent me the sign of a Daisy. And St. Thérèse of Lisieux is known as “The Little Flower”.
It’s incredible to think about how the saints intercede on our behalf. And most of the time, I don’t think we are even aware of it or possibly capable of understanding it all.
We had no clue what that sign was all about on 1/2/22. One of the Star Wars movies even came on that day and my husband pointed out that the actress’s name was Daisy Ridley. It’s not a very common name so I thought that was kind of a funny coincidence.
We then started to get lots of other “funny coincidences” related to the name Daisy leading up to our daughter being born. There was just no denying by the time she was born that her name was meant to be Daisy.
Growing up, I also used to help my grandpa sell Daisy flowers in the summertime in memory of the Korean War (fundraiser). This was similar to the “Poppy” flower for the VFW but was in remembrance of the Korean War specifically. So for me, that just adds another layer of meaning and significance as well.
I’m forever grateful that we have Saints in heaven helping us out and praying for us.
God is so good!
“May he make of us an eternal offering to you, so that we may obtain an inheritance with your elect, … with all the Saints, on whose constant intercession in your presence we rely for unfailing help.”
